Game on

As reported by Ad Age, a new study from Ziff-Davis titled, "Digital Gaming in America" revealed some pretty interesting statistics:

  • Hard core gamers (4+ titles purchased in past 6 mo AND plays 10+ hours/week) have shifted another 4 hours of weekly TV watching to online activities over the past year
  • HCG households increased by 900K from 18.9 to 19.8 million households
    • Overall, there are currently 76.2 million game playing households (up 11.4% from 2004)
  • Gamers are "just like us": the perception of HCG locked in their basements is not indicative of reality. Besides socializing (2/3rd spend time with Friends), they also consume other ON-DEMAND media pretty healthily e.g. 85% rented DVD movies; attended an average of 4 movies in past 2 months
    • Also, roughly 1/3rd of HCG are female and 1/3rd are 35+ years old
