Million dollar babies

Alex Tew is all the rage with his million dollar home page. With 1000 pixels to go, he's done what any self-respecting entrepreneur would do...he put 'em up on eBay. Current bidding is at roughly $160 USD. This morning's WSJ profiles this wunderkind, who - from the article - has a good heart and an even better brain!

Many competitors and copycats have cropped up (as would be expected) Here are a bunch (from the article):

What struck me as I read this article (which is why I'm blogging it after all this time), is that it represents a very interesting consumer behavior trend - namely, the democratization of "experience" itself. In many of these cases, consumers are giving others the opportunity to "buy into" (literally) a cause, experience, action, idea etc. Some are frivolous and others not.

It's not the first time a consumer has appealed to the outside world for assistance, but I think this could be bigger than that...and it certainly appears to be mainstreaming in terms of the visibility, infrastructure and payment.
