Congratulations to Taylor Hicks - your new American Idol. I gotta say, kudos to Fox et al for an unbelievable 2 hour spectacular production. Highlights included Katharine McPhee and Meatloaf in an unforgettable rendition of It's all coming back to me now, as well as The Hoff in tears when Taylor won!
I almost felt bad that I skipped through every single one of the ads. I almost felt that I should have watched at least one in appreciation of the incredible entertainment.
Naaaaaaaaaah.

MY EYES!!!!
Joseph...A little courtesy to those of us that Tivo'd it and PROMISED their wives we'd wait 'til they got back from tennis! I've been dilligently avoiding all spots online that might have had a spoiler. I never suspected the Juice! Damn you, Joseph Jaffe! :)

You know...I woke up this morning thinking, "oh crap, I hope I didn't spoil the surprise for anyone"...I guess nothing is completely TiVo-proof, now is it?
Same thing happened with the Olympics that NBC unsuccessfully tried to tape-delay. In the age of perfect information, live truly is live.
But in any event...sorry :)

You are absolutely relentless in your assault on the 30 second spot...I love it!!!

So if you skipped through all of the ads (the things that paid for the great program), how much would you have paid out of pocket to watch it? Just curious...

Great question.....um....aaaah....how about ZERO? Is zero enough for you? :)
Wearing my consumer hat, you get the above response; wearing my JJ hat, I'd say up to $10 (price of a movie)
Hell, I'd even go to the cinema to see it and buy the overpriced popcorn.
The key assumption here is compelling content. Anything less and I want my money back.

Et tu, Jaffe? You... an idol fan... well, I never. Forget all the crap about new media, we could have posted to discuss the finer goings ons of Katherine and Taylor and all the others...

The only brand I remember from last night was Coke :)

Joe:
Love your blog and your book. And I was pleasantly surpised to see a post on American Idol and Taylor Hicks.
The duet w/ Catherine and Meatloaf was fabulous, and Taylor came away with the big prize.
I was especially impressed with the Soul Patrol. I thought that was a great example of viral or word of mouth marketing. Someone coined the name, and thousands of people jumped on the band wagon and spread the word. It was brilliant, and helped Taylor become the next American Idol.
I have to say, though I used to think Ryan Seacrest was cheesy, he is hilarious. I like him alot. The formula for Idol is right on. As my wife and I watch it, and my wife's 80 year old parents watch it.
Brilliant!

Great point about the branding of Taylor Hicks AKA Soul Patrol. Definitely helped spread the word!
