Curry v Jaffe - Last Podcaster Standing

So unless you've been living under a podcasting rock for the past few days, you should be aware of Adam Curry's tirade against lowly ole me.

As I attempted to do my part to promote Adam's expanding empire, whilst respecting my listeners' wishes to keep my podcast to an hour, I split the 1 1/2 hour interview with him and Ron Bloom, Podshow's CEO, into 2 parts. I played part 1 as ATS #49, but decided to hold part 2 as ransom, given the fact he showed no love to me in terms of acknowledging part 1.

I have angered the Podfather.

He has withdrawn his permission for me to play part 2 (which I don't believe is actually possible in podcastingland) until I show HIM some love back in return.

He also made me his bitch.

Hear him rant and rave on DSC #456 and DSC #457

MarketWatch comments on it as well.

My response will be on ATS #53....

I recently wrote about how Joseph Jaffe was refusing to air the second half of an interview with Adam Curry. I'm not going to turn Biz Podcasting to Jaffe Watch or anything, but I listened to some of the audio... [Read More]

» A Thought on Jaffe v Curry from Student PR Blog: Chris Clarke's Perspective on Public Relations and Online Communications
This is a bit of a sticky situation, to say the least. Joseph Jaffe, one of the coolest guys in podcasting and someone who I owe a lot to, had Adam Curry and Ron Bloom on his show on episode #49 to mark the 50th episode of his podcast, Across the Sound... [Read More]

Ahhhh, Link baiting at its very best. Congrats on the fine job. Did it send any traffic your way? And in the name of transparency, will you play the appology that Adam refused too?

Also to MarketWatch, I think Adam saying not to edit the interview was more a suggestion then an Order. Reading their article, it looks like you just plain ignored him which to my understanding isn't the case.

*yawn* you're better than that jaffe

Uh, this is linkbaiting circa 2004. Certainly you and the King of Hair can do better than this?

You guys are probably right. I just felt I had to respond...

Hug it out you little bitches!

(c/o Entourage: the best show since Seinfeld)

Either this is some bizarre way of promoting the Jaffe and Curry shows... or it's the petulant spat described. Either way, you just stomped on the little remaining interest I might have had in listening to your respective shows.

Did you two have a signed contract specifying cross-promotional consideration? No? Then why expect anything? A verbal agreement is worth the paper it's written on.

Hmmm... Podbashing. It may turn into a spectator sport.

sweet. you should team up with KATG and start a splinter group.

don't check in.

Entourage isn't the best show since Seinfeld, Michael. Watch Rescue Me and you'll see...

Also, oops. Apologize harder, Joseph!

Posted by: Chris Clarke

This seems a little childish. Did you tell him that as part of the interview you wanted link backs? The content of your show is too good for these kind of tactics. Play the rest of the interview and make up.

Posted by: Paul Herring

C'mon Joe, look past the ego, your listeners wanted to hear part 2. It should have been played w/o all the theatrics. Please prove the "link-baiter" critics wrong.

Posted by: Barry Engel

What's all this bitch slapping all about anyway? Ego of course. Imagine that, two marketing guys with big egos...hmmmm.
I guess this podcasting stuff is starting to mirror real life politics & antics.
Come on boys, kiss and make up you silly bitches.

"Hear hear" to all other comments, "jeer jeer" to Joe - you're bigger than this (not sure if Adam is, too. And I am speaking as a fellow Dutchman who knows a little about his career...). Unless this is your "New Coke vs Classic Coke": a cunning plan to drive traffic and attention. In that case: 10 out of 10 for execution.

Joseph Jaffe, you're a Wanker! What a childish thing to do...very professional!

Ha Ha. I thought the no love stuff was actually delivered with a hint of humour but it's very easy to miss if you don't know him. I delcare that I do. However, this missed the mark and hit Adam square in the tenderest part of his ego. Possibly a misjudged quip Joseph. Add to that an edit on the word of god and you were clearly asking for it.

Thought Adam's pop at the voice not matching the looks to be a bit playground. It's hard to match up to the Zoolander looks and have a South African accent. Matching looks and voice is such an inexact science anyway. Applied to Adam you might unfairly conclude that he sounds as if he looks like the product of an illicit union between Hasselhoff and Michael Bolton. Ok, sometimes it is an exact science...damn.

Anyway, easy to tell someone to 'bend over bitch' when there's several thousand miles between bitch and well, appendage. So, here's an idea. I live a stone's throw from Adam in 'the affluent county of Surrey'. I'm having breakfast with Joseph in London in a couple of weeks...maybe we could all hook up and either patch it up like brawny men over Latte or consumate the 'relationship' face to arse in a Soho Starbucks. Now that's what video podcasting was invented for!

What a disgustingly good marketing idea. Interview a big name in your industry, rag on him for not promoting the podcast interview and then get all of blogosphere and podosphere chatting about it so your technorati tag looks fat.

Genius, just genius, I say. Great job JJ.

Leesa,

Not sure if you listened to ATS #53. In it I explain that the reason I delayed the interview was twofold:

1) I had not had the time to post-produce part 2 (Adam's voice was way too soft and I had to manually boost/amplify his voice)
2) I had so many audio comments from other listeners that I wanted to make sure I played these, before they became unmanageable

The ransom thing was a spontaneous and silly joke...but of course I was aware of the possibility (not probability) of something coming out of it...

It was not premeditated. It was not disrespectful. It was not designed to jerk my listeners around.

I'm still amazed at how many so-called social-media savvy marketing professionals took this so literally and so seriously...I mean, come on - holding an interview ransom? It's preposterous...

I don't even have technorati tags on my blog. I'm so disinterested in boosting traffic to my blog or podcast; I'm more concerned with building my community through the quality of my content, the passion of my audience and yes, the intensity of the conversation and debate.
