Anshe Chung, Second Life's land baroness has hit a major milestone: one million dollars (US)
Starting with just $10 to her name, she has built up an enviable (and influential) empire in just 32 months.
Anshe will have a press conference in-world on Tuesday and Divo Dapto will try and be there.
Congrats!!!

She's become "The Donald" of Second Life! This is important as its a figure that forces open eyes of marketers to what's happening in Second Life and that its worthy their brand's attention.
Anshe's role in SL will need to evolve I'd suggest, just as the SL community and experience evolves and changes. The brands that are entering SL now cannot just open up a building with their logo -- the PR hit is over -- now they need to add value to the community in new ways.
The rapid growth of SL is great, but the community and the brands that are now a part of it should continue to evaluate and adjust their presence. Just as we monitor our advertising online or offline and learn we have to do the same in SL.

Her avatar's hair looks much more real than 'the Donald'.
I attended her press conference and followed along as she led a small group on a tour of a few of her SIMs. It indeed sounded like she's ready to evolve her role beyond a real estate mogul. She spoke of moving ahead to help form local governments in Second Life based on business and land ownership.

Could someone tell me why I should care about Second Life?

Chris Jennings, your e-mail address is at Beamland.com and the tagline there is "Interactive and Relationship Marketing".
Come ON, already. Ask a different question, please.
