It was not bad coverage all-around. I doubt anyone at Time really thinks we're the most important "people of the year." But their selection does indicate something else. This award has always been a not-so-transparent attempt to capture "buzz." They used to do that by picking someone controversial and/or extremely famous. This selection indicates they realize the power of buzz has migrated from the few to the many. I think their choice shows that the Time editorial staff has calculated that the buzz-building capacity of the Web has reached a tipping point.
By the way -- did you notice the pre-roll ad from Chrysler before the article? It was pretty funny. I've got a screen-cap at the link to my blog with this post.
