My 100-year old grandfather can kick your 100-year old grandfather's ass!

The second annual "Evercare 100 @ 100 Survey" just released data from their poll of 100 Americans turning 100 or older.

Currently there are 80,000 centenarians in the US and by 2040, this is expected to increase 7x to 580,000 with the arrival of the first wave of Baby Boomers.

Highlights included:

  • 31% have watched Reality TV and 27% have watched MTV (!) or music videos
  • Nearly 25% have purchased a music CD and 1 in 7 has played a video game
  • 6% said they have been on the Web and 4% have listened to music on an iPod
  • 11% have ordered coffee at Starbucks

I just thought it was interesting to get an iniside look at a "demographic" that would ordinarily be the last segment to be thought of in new marketing terms. It certainly helps to eradicate stereotypes, particularly amongst lazy media, advertising and marketing executives.
