I'm testing the revolutionary new ad platform from Facebook, with "Join the Conversation" as my guinea pig.
From a total universe of 22,862,080, I selected 25+ year olds interested in Marketing as my subjects, leaving me with 2,140 potential book buyers.
I checked "Add Social Actions" to my ad and look forward to Jay Moonah giving me free advertising :)
So far, so good: 13 impressions and 1 click with a CTR of 7.69% Up to 133 impressions now with still 1 click. 0.73% CTR. Perhaps I should optimize?
Wish me luck.

P.S. 22 million is just the U.S. population of Facebook. Joseph, we know you hate Canadians but show us a little love, eh? Don't be afraid to GIVE'R!

I'm sure I'm in your demo, and I haven't seen the ad yet.

Walking the talk. Yup, that's you.
My sense is that putting this smart program together wasn't heavy lifting. So, how many Fortune 500 folks have done this for their brand or products? I bet a tiny group. But, then, ad agencies wouldn't really get paid for an idea like this.
An example of a good idea caught up in an old compensation model. Which, is hurting the clients right now.
Keep it up!
(Soon you'll have almost as many books as the bald guy)

Peter,
No it wasn't time consuming at all. Interface was pleasant and user-friendly.
One negative is that it won't allow me to fine-tune/change my parameters. Not sure why it's making me discriminate against people older than 65 years old.
Joe
PS Update - 641 impressions; 3 clicks - wonder if they bought the book; it's dirt cheap on Amazon.com

I haven't had any success with Facebook Ads. I tried an ad for a fashion website geared at 18-25 year old women who were interested in Fashion. Got tens of thousands of impressions but only a handful of clicks. Either my ad creative/copy was terrible and/or people just don't click on ads much when they're on Facebook. I think it was some of both, but I also think most people currently aren't in the buying mindset when they're on Facebook. They're there to stalk their friends, not to learn about new products/services (for the most part) unless their friends recommend them. Has anyone out there had better results using Facebook to advertise?

I recommended it to a friend and she bought it. Didn't cost you anything (besides time I suppose).
Sorry, just a cynical comment as I've never been quite impressed with FB's ads.

I'm actually reading your book now and wanted to thank you for writing - it's inspired us to do two on line kick arse world firsts. Many, many thanks.

Good luck with the experiment. I tried SocialAds a few weeks ago and gave up after one week and one click. So many people like me don't have 'marketing' in their Fb profiles' list of interests, the targeting is too restrictive. Have you tried targeting B'school MBA alumni?

From previous experience I heard that although CTR was very low (at least 10 times lower than the median expected CTR), conversion rate was impressive. That's the key figure you need your Amazon friends to find out...

Actually some of the business students may well be the best beneficiaries of your book. Looking forward to the results.
