5 media companies (Disney, News Corp, Viacom, Time Warner and NBC Universal) are matched by more or less the same number of advertising holding companies or more specifically 5 media services agencies. 5 cable companies...5 clients...all consolidating...all the time...
In an era where bigger was supposed to be better; where one size fitted all; where jacks ruled over all trades and purported to be masters of them as well; where one stop shopping was a reality; where you get the most low ads at bargain basement prices....suddenly a clear line which might as well be the line between land and air atop a behemoth cliff.
I certainly don't hold to be the first person to say this and I certainly am not under illusions that others were echoing the same thoughts (just not as loud or vocally), but I am always believed that the Goliaths would eventually explode or implode...either that or it would be very lonely when OmniWPGicis realized there was no one left on this earth to talk to (or acquire)
Silently (or maybe not so silently), boutiques have been mushrooming - filling the voids vacated by the presence of ingenuity, entrepreneurial flair and genuine creativity. And now we wait; we wonder; we see what happens next (and I'm not talking about Mitsubishi's Super Bowl Website either)
Let's not forget what kind of acid-laden music chairs is going to ensue during the coming GM review. Let's not forget that companies like Viacom are looking around and instead of being a Noah's Ark of both genders of every species, they in fact have bowl of fruit (some are ripening; some are ripe; some are overripe; and some are very very rotten to the core)
