Busy Monday morning for Mediaweek and the woes of old marketing:
- ASME (American Society of Magazine Editors) is expected to announce today a ban on product placement. Now while I'm not the biggest proponent of product placement....don't desperate times call for desperate housewives? Just ask TV
- Is Friday the new Saturday? Only if Black is the new White. Basically media buyers are all in a tizzy about the possibility of networks using Friday for repeats, reruns etc following soft ratings. Here's a thought....accept the fact people go out on Friday night and move on.
- The Demise of Reality TV? Unreal! Could we be witnessing the end of a fad? This article thinks so. To quote one anonymous media buyer (don't you love the mystery and drama of the agency source who won't reveal themselves...they should script that):
- âA show like The Apprentice was more compelling when the contestants were selling lemonade out on the street. Now weâre watching people create ad campaigns for Lamborghini, when they have no advertising experience. Itâs so transparent.â
