When "Life after the 30-second spot" came out, I conducted an experiment called Use New Marketing to Prove New Marketing (or UNM2PNM for short)
The underlying thinking behind this effort was that I would use the very approaches in my book to help market it and in so doing, would turn the book into its own case study.
UNM2PNM in its first iteration took the form of a simple offer: If you have a marketing or business-related blog or podcast and agree to review my book, I'll send you a free copy.
Following a Long Tail strategic foundation, the effort generated a slew of reviews (which I was proud to say were consistently positive). The one shortcoming of the effort however was my inability to dedicate enough bandwidth/resources to the project to follow up on all those who had requested the book to confirm a) that they received it, b) that they had read it and ultimately c) that they had delivered on their end of the bargain so to speak.
With the release of my new book, Join the Conversation, in mid-October of last year, I'm pleased to be able to repeat this effort and I have 150 books to giveaway on a first-come-first-served basis.
The terms of the offer are as follows:
- I will issue a free copy of Join the Conversation to any business, marketing and/or advertising-related blogger that agrees to review the book
- You can request a copy here
- When you are ready, post your review - good, bad or ugly - and e-mail me to let me know that it's up. I don't care what you say as long as its genuine and from the heart
- I will collect the reviews and update the progress periodically, including sharing as many stats as possible and linking back to you
Of course if you already have a copy of the book, your review is MOST welcome as well. Just e-mail me the link to your blog post and/or Amazon.com review where applicable.
In terms of expectations, I'll be interested to see how short or long it takes to fill the quota. I'm cautiously optimistic...and I say "cautious" because there is so much clutter in the book space right now - both generally and category (social media etc) specific - and and it is becoming increasingly difficult to break through, especially with the glut of terrific FREE IP in the form of the blogosphere and podosphere of course.
Let's see what transpires...
PS I need a nice Web 2.0 logo for UNM2PNM. Any takers?
