Many of you may know that one of crayon's clients is a company called ooVoo. ooVoo's software promotes (amongst other things) multi-person video chat, with up to 6 people at the same time.
In fact, that was my a-ha moment when I participated in a crayon status call and was in touch with Greg, Scott, myself and the folks over at ooVoo all the same time.
One of crayon's charges on behalf of ooVoo is to help introduce them to the "conversation" and in order to accomplish this goal, we came up with a program which became known as "My ooVoo day with..." or MoDW.
Update: The Social Media News Release is here
The gist of the program is simple: why tell people about a new product, service, innovation and/or offering, when you can show them. Why "inform, persuade and remind" when you can "demonstrate, involve and empower"? This - coupled with the insight that ooVoo is essentially a catalyst or conduit i.e. a means to an end, as opposed to an end unto itself - inspired us to create a rather unique community-based initiative, where ooVoo's role was to do what it does best: enable.
We've reached out to - and assembled - a group of 20+ diverse conversationalists - bloggers, podcasters and community leaders, spanning industries and segments including - but not limited to parenting, media, technology, the deaf community, book authors, marketing, "ex-pats", pop culture and the list goes on.
Actually here's the list:
- Mitch Joel/Six Pixels of Separation
- Steve Hall/AdRants
- Bob Garfield/AdAge & On the Media
- Joseph Jaffe/JaffeJuice (that would be me)

Over the course of February 10-21, we've invited participants to set up a series of informal video conversations on the Web, using ooVoo. We're not asking anyone to directly or overtly comment on, review, praise or critique ooVoo, but rather to focus on what they do best: connect, communicate and converse with each other.
If you'd like to chat with any of the above group - and in particular, with ME (I'm walking our talk as well by participating), then head on over to My ooVoo Day With.... and book your place in the scheduled conversations. You'll of course need an ooVoo ID and a web camera.
I can't help you with the camera, but I can direct you to the MoDW website to download the software.
Finally, we're acknowledging our hosts' valuable time, effort and energy by donating $1,500 in each of the participants/community's names to a charity of their choice, unless of course they elect to pool their money to our designated charity - the incredibly worthy Frozen Pea Fund, a fund established to support the American Cancer Societyâs Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign, in honor of blogger and cancer patient Susan Reynolds (who is one of the MoDW participants)
So that's the deal. My windows are the following dates/times:
